Sahayog is an NGO working for women’s empowerment and emancipation. Its mission is to promote gender equality and women’s health from a human rights point of view. By providing relevant legal and medical aid and information to women, dalits, non-literate, rural residents, minorities and other marginalized groups, Sahayog helps them access and realize their individual rights and makes them aware of all the privilages they are entitled to. Sahayog also believes that unless people and groups participate in decision-making processes that affect their lives, promoting women’s rights and raising the level of awareness on these issues is not possible. A part of its agenda is to increase and encourage people’s participation in important legislative processes so that they too can give their opinion and have a say in policy decisions which affect their daily lives.

It also works in partnership with local NGOs at the district and rural level, which help spread awareness on women’s rights and gender awareness issues among rural women, men and adolescents. Sahayog also provides information and resources to various organizations, educational institutions, state level actors and the media who are involved in promoting women's rights and other related issues. It also initiates campaigns and legal efforts in co-ordination with other organisations and individuals to promote it's agenda of empowering women.
