SAHAYOG was founded on the belief that socially marginalised individuals and groups such as poor rural women, Dalits, tribal communities, youth, non-literates and minorities must participate in decision-making that affects their lives. SAHAYOG works at the community level in partnership with local NGOs to build capacities, anchor campaigns, support advocacy efforts and provide information so that the marginalised can know their rights, access services and influence decision making.
With two decades of experience and an evidence base built by continuing research and documentation, SAHAYOG strengthens partnerships to advocate on various women’s rights issues with state actors, civil society and the media. In promoting women’s rights at the state, national and international level, SAHAYOG upholds values of equity and equality, participation, transparency and effectiveness.
The major strategies adopted by SAHAYOG include:
- Capacity building and technical support that supports partners in the grassroots organisations and networks organizing leadership and awareness building workshops
- Policy and media advocacy through networks that includes partners, coalitions and advocacy platforms, both within Uttar Pradesh and at the national level to advance the human rights of poor and marginalized groups, using community level evidence
- Information resource centre that conducts research, monitoring studies, case documentation, production and dissemination of information material, and effective use of IT tools
