SAHAYOG facilitated a year-long voluntary collaboration among NGOs and researchers to understand women’s experiences with attempting to seek institutional care through a block-level study across six states of India. The research design and training of researchers was done with support from a panel of expert advisors.

SAHAYOG facilitated the national sharing meeting of the draft report, “Glimpses of Institutional Maternity Care: Some Food for Thought” in New Delhi, 22 April 2009.

The insights from this study were put into a briefing kit for the newly elected parliamentarians in 2009. This was prepared in collaboration with a team of allies and experts, and was launched by the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in July 2009.

Researchers from the Study of Institutional Delivery (2008-2009) came together once again for panel presentations at the Global Maternal Health Conference (30 August-1 September 2010) in New Delhi. The panel was chaired by Dr. Abhijit Das (Director, Centre for Health and Social Justice and a member of the AGCA). It used the findings from the study to highlight experiences of women from poor and marginal communities in attempting to access institutional care during labour.
