Volunteers & Interns


Are you hoping to spend some weeks working with a dynamic organisation that offers rich opportunities to gain NGO experience, to see rights based approaches in operation, to contribute to activities such as research on gender or youth issues or women’s health?

For the last ten years SAHAYOG has hosted several interns and volunteers from India as well as UK, USA and Denmark.

We welcome:

  • Interns from Fellowship programmes
  • Students from academic institutions on Regular or Block Placement
  • Volunteers who wish to commit time and contribute skills to the organisation

Working Relationship

What we offer:
  • Mentoring based on a clear learning agenda or project
  • Field exposure
  • Computer and Internet facilities
  • Translator if needed
  • Travel support if needed
  • Local logistics and space to work
  • Certificate of Internship / Volunteering

On your part:

  • Interns and volunteers are expected to provide for their own stay and food expenses
  • We request a minimum commitment of four weeks of full time work (longer if it is part-time) and can provide long term opportunities- up to a year
  • At the end Interns and Volunteers who engaged in a study will be expected to provide SAHAYOG with a copy of the report or other output document

Work opportunities include

1. Field work - in rural areas, urban slums or with other institutions/ organizations. SAHAYOG can provide opportunities for :
  • Research and evaluation studies, action research
  • Programme support such as trainings and workshops
  • Campaign activities, public events
  • Process documentation, documentary films
  • Case documentation, case work

2. Desk based work – either at SAHAYOG office or from home. Options include:

  • Media advocacy and media scanning
  • Website work and blogs
  • Internet based research and literature review
  • Data entry and compilation, data analysis and report writing
  • Supporting programme teams with proposal or report writing, donor identification and so forth

Please mention :

  • Languages spoken/understood
  • Your areas of experience / skills and interests
  • The exact duration of the stay with SAHAYOG

You may be asked to come for an interview personally or on the phone.

If selected to join :

  • There will be an initial orientation to SAHAYOG including reading, documentary films, site visits and presentations
  • Your mentor will prepare a work-plan with you for optimal use of your time
  • There will be periodic meetings with the mentor for further inputs and problem solving
  • There will be an exit interview
