Maternal Health and Rights - Capacity Building

SAHAYOG believes in building the capacity of community women and partner organisations to carry out effective advocacy, monitoring, research and case documentation around maternal health and rights issues. SAHAYOG staff and partners have provided numerous capacity building trainings and workshops at the district, state, national and international levels.

The main topics addressed by SAHAYOG’s capacity building work around maternal health and rights include:

  • Qualitative Research for Maternal Health
To train field researchers on how to select cases and conduct in-depth interviews for case documentation.
  • Grassroots Case Documentation for Maternal Health
To train community activists on how to document cases of maternal health service denial or maternal deaths. This has been done in five states.
  • Advocacy for Women’s Rights
To train middle-level workers within NGOs to build understanding and skills for carrying out advocacy campaigns for women’s rights.
  • Leadership-Building for Grassroots Women
To enable members of Mahila Swasthya Adhikar Manch to learn about maternal health, entitlements to government services within the NRHM, and ways of doing effective advocacy.
  • Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA) Training
To build skills of community women for safe childbirth and maternal health using interactive and participatory methods.
