Maternal Health and Rights - Partners

Partnerships and cooperation with others is a key element of SAHAYOG’s approach to its work on maternal health and rights. Most of our work is planned and implemented in collaboration with other groups and networks.

Astitva works mainly on the issue of violence against women with poor, Mulsim, and Dalit women in Saharanpur and Muzzafarnagar Districts. Through this work, Astitva hopes to create a society that is free from gender-based violence. The organisation also works on women’s health and rights, children’s education and youth sexual and reproductive health rights in Saharanpur and Muzzafarnagar.

Baba Ramkaran Das Grameen Vikas Samiti works with youth on health and rights issues in 10 villages of Gorakhpur District. They work through health education with men and youth on the right to safe motherhood (including gender discrimination and right to choice regarding marriage) and violence against women.

P.G.S.S. is a church supported organisation of the Diocese that works on health and women's issues, including safe motherhood, in Gorakhpur and Kushinagar Districts. The organisation works with rural women, adolescents and also men through organizing community groups and conducting health education activities, TBA training and school health programmes.

Shikhar Prashikshan Sansthan is associated with the Mahila Adhikar Manch which is a mass-based organization of women labourers of Mirzapur district. Its membership consists of tribal and Dalit women who work as agricultural labour and in stone quarries in 35 villages of two blocks. The organization has been working on issues such as the right to food, women’s health, labour rights and children and women’s rights for the last three years.

Tarun Vikas Sansthan works on women’s health and rights, violence against women, youth sexual and reproductive health and rights, education and fundamental rights issues. Adivasi Adhikar Samiti (AAS) of Chhattisgarh is a mass-based organization (sangathan) of tribal women in Koriya district. Its membership mainly consists of women forest produce collectors spread across 300 villages in 3 blocks. It has been active for the past three years and its main struggles have been in securing food, health and forest rights of tribal women.

CHSJ is a health policy resource centre working with the mission “to promote human development, gender equality, human rights and social justice with specific reference to the field health, in its widest interpretation.” CHSJ was established in 2006 and works with civil society and government to facilitate the formulation and implementation of health policies and programmes to ensure social justice.

Healthwatch Forum is a network active in several north Indian states for advocacy and monitoring on reproductive health and rights. Healthwatch Forum maintains the Reprohealth Listserve which is used by advocates and concerned civil society members to communicate about maternal and reproductive health and rights across India. SAHAYOG is anchoring the secretariat of Healthwatch Forum.

PRAYAS has been associated with an apex organization of community women leaders from 30 villages of Nainital district called the Betalghat Block Mahila Natritva Sangathan. Its membership consists largely of Dalit women as well as women who are elected councillors (Panchayat Raj Institutions), single women and survivors of gender based violence. Since 2005, PRAYAS has been working on issues such as violence against women, women’s health, and women’s issues in Panchayats.
